AUSTIN, TEXAS–May 13, 2008 – Three up and coming corps will take the field at this summer’s Drum Corps International competitions with Quantum Marching instruments from Jupiter, Mapex and Majestic. The Academy from Tempe, Arizona, Teal Sound from Jacksonville, Florida and Jersey Surf from Mount Holly, New Jersey will carry the new line of marching instruments released this January by Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc.
The Academy enters its second season of World Class competition with 20 scheduled shows. Since the corps foundation in 2001, they have been creating dynamic performances that lead to their win of the Open Class DCI World Championship in 2006. Known for their incredible brass section, brass instructors Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan along with Percussion Caption Head Glen Crosby have all been critically involved in the development of Jupiter’s premier line of marching instruments.
Jersey Surf won the Silver medal in the Open Class segment of the 2007 Drum Corps International World Championships in Pasadena, capturing both the brass and percussion championship titles in the process. “We’re honored to be one of the first corps to showcase the Quantum series,” said Brian Prato, Operations director for Jersey Surf. The Jersey Surf has been recognized with an unprecedented three consecutive Disney Awards for excellence and innovation in creative program design, education and performance.
The Open Class Teal Sound corps enters their 10th anniversary season, after winning the Division II/III Bronze medal at the DCI World Championships and the Spirit of Disney award in 2007. Since their move into Open Class competitions in 2005, the Teal Sound has been on the fast track to success. “We are looking forward to playing on the Quantum instruments this season,” said corps director Randy W. Blackburn. “The fact that Jupiter, Mapex and Majestic have developed these instruments with the entire ensemble in mind adds to the overall balance and blend of the program,” added Caption Head Ron Ellis.
“It will be rewarding to watch these corps bring the Quantum series to life in DCI competition,” said Tabor Stamper, Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc. This is Jupiter’s second year as a Tour Sponsor for the DCI season and the first year the Quantum instruments will be used in DCI competitions.
