AUSTIN, TEXAS – May 11, 2009 – The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade may not be until November, but student musicians from across the country just found a reason to be excited. The first round of students who will perform as members of the 2009 Macy’s Great American Marching Band was announced by Music Festivals on May first. Congratulations to the 114 students who will march the parade route and perform in New York City’s Herald Square on Thanksgiving Day.
Dr. Rick Good of Auburn University and Dr. John Woods of Ohio State University, the co-directors of the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, should be excited as well, of the students selected so far, 90% performed in their state’s All-State Band.
As official instrument suppliers for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, Jupiter and Mapex supply new Jupiter brass and Mapex Quantum series drums for the participants. Authorized Jupiter and Mapex dealer Gadsden Music of Alabama provides on-site staff to assist with distribution of the instruments to the students.
