AUSTIN, TEXAS–April 21, 2008 – Another dynamic performance group has joined the Quantum Marching Project as announced by Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc. in late March. The Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps of Mount Holly, New Jersey will take the field with the new Quantum marching series from Jupiter, Mapex and Majestic for the 2008 Drum Corps International competitive season. After testing the Quantum models at the Jupiter headquarters and at its southern New Jersey rehearsal facility in January, the Open Class corps has taken delivery of an entire suite of new Quantum instruments which were designed with an ensemble approach creating a unified voicing across the entire musical spectrum.
"Our staff has been working closely with Quantum product managers in both the brass and percussion areas for several months, and is absolutely thrilled with the quality of the instruments and the level of support that we’ve already received from Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc.," said Brian Prato Operations director for Jersey Surf. "We’re honored to be one of the first corps to showcase the Quantum series and we’re looking forward to better serving our members by providing them with instruments of the highest quality on an ongoing basis."
In 2007 Jersey Surf won the Silver medal in the Division II segment of the Drum Corps International World Championships in Pasadena, California, narrowly missing its first World Champion crown while capturing both the brass and percussion championship titles in the process. "Rich Hammond and Mike Zellers lead a staff of true percussion educators whose students consistently perform at a high level and with a great deal of musicianship," said Chris Hankes Jupiter Percussion Product Manager. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a talented and experienced percussion staff."
With an emphasis on regional touring and by providing its members with top-level instruction and an alternative to a full-time summer tour, the Jersey Surf has grown consistently in each of its 17 years of DCI competition and has become one of DCI’s most popular competing units. The Jersey Surf has been recognized with an unprecedented three consecutive Disney Awards for excellence and innovation in creative program design, education and performance.
"Jersey Surf has long been respected for the quality of their organization, their high level of performance and the positive experience they provide for their members," commented Tabor Stamper the VP of Business Development for Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc., "We’re all excited about the addition of Jupiter instruments to the Jersey Surf formula and hope it will help provide the foundation for their move to an even higher level."
Two other competitive groups will also carry Quantum brass, drums and percussion from Jupiter, Mapex and Majestic: The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, a World Class unit from Tempe, Arizona, and Open Class ensemble Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps of Jacksonville, Florida.
