Quantum PARTNER REVIEWS

Now that players have taken the field with Quantum, read what they have to say...

Doug Bush
Renown Marching Bass Drum Specialist

The Mapex Quantum marching bass drum line is the benchmark by which all other marching bass drums will be judged. With innovations such as aluminum alloy rims and air hole configurations based on the shell size, Mapex has redefined the effort that goes into making not only a great marching bass drum, but a musical instrument of the highest quality.

The 100% maple shells in a huge range of diameters and widths, in combination with the Mapex bearing edge provides the versatility needed to achieve any sound you're looking for. No matter what head combination or tuning scheme, I have never had a problem getting a Mapex bass drum to sing.

I have personally never worked with a drum company this honest in their approach to making instruments that are beautiful in sound and appearance. I have the highest regards for everyone at Jupiter/Mapex/Majestic and their dedication to producing the highest quality instruments ever to grace a football field.

Right out of the gate, Mapex and Majestic were able to produce instruments that look beautiful and sound great. The warmth of these instruments is immediately apparent. I really dig the way the tone of the tenors wraps itself around the snare voice, and the intense projection of the bass drums. It creates a really well balanced and evenly blended ensemble sound. They really got it right!

The service has been tremendous. I look forward to a long relationship with this great company.

Mapex and Majestic have put together a series of instruments that sound, play, and look amazing. The tonal characteristics of the drums and keyboards are perfect for indoor and outdoor marching use, and the volume that each instrument produces makes balancing a breeze. Whether you are working with a small high school marching band or a 40 member indoor percussion ensemble, these drums eliminate many of the problems created by inconsistent playing environments and modern drum line staging. Marching percussion has evolved drastically over the past decade, and now there is a series of instruments which reflects that progression.

The Mapex Quantum snare drums have a crisp attack that doesn't require extreme tuning. The snare response is excellent. Without any muffling or modification, I was able to get a perfect snare sound for the '08 Jenison indoor line. I think this sound will work equally as well outdoors.

The tenor sound is one of a kind. All diameters produce wide open tone. The 6" drums carried all the way to the top of the gym! I tuned them exactly how I needed without any worries of the tenor line being obscured by the snares or basses.

The basses have a very warm sound, but don't lack in punch. The aluminum rims allow for even tuning and they stay in tune longer.

The overall sound of the Mapex drums is quite impressive. As an ensemble, the snares, tenors and basses all have their own voice and each one could be easily heard as part of the ensemble sound without having to make adjustments to tuning or changing the player's approach to the instruments.

We are very excited to be performing on Mapex Percussion. I absolutely love the sound and projection of the instruments, especially the tenors. Our first time in Sun Devil Stadium with those drums, I heard a clarity of tone that we did not have before. Even the top toms projected with tone. Not only are all of the instruments great, Chris Hankes and all the Jupiter/Mapex Staff are tremendous to work with. Their service is absolutely first class.

I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the new percussion equipment from the Quantum Marching Project which features Mapex and Majestic. The customer service is efficient, courteous and all together top shelf. As far as the instruments themselves are concerned, it should be obvious to everyone who hears the new gear, that great time and effort was given to design and development. The end result of those efforts has produced a line of field drums and melodic percussion instruments that not only sound good individually but also have an incredibly blended ensemble sound.

Mapex Snare Drums: The sound quality and durability of these new snare drums rivals the other manufacturers who are at the top of the marching percussion industry. The maple shells allow for maximum resonance and the snare bed is the ultimate in sensitivity. This combination allows for crisp snare response regardless of the playing area or an individual's tuning preferences.

Mapex Tenors: Finally, maximum articulation, resonance and projection in one set of tenors! These drums represent a blend of all the favorable qualities and characteristics of other makers all wrapped up in one. They are medium weight, aesthetically pleasing and sound amazing. In addition to these great features, they are easy to tune and maintain their set pitches. Even after a long rehearsal session, the tuning remains consistent from lug to lug and drum to drum.

Mapex Bass Drums: The Mapex bass drums are light weight and the sound quality is synonymous with the top bass drum makes in the world. The newly designed metal hoops offer a higher level of durability than ever before. These hoops resist "bending out," a situation that all world class bass drum instructors and players has had to deal with. The new claw design redirects the stresses of high tension tuning to a more suitable area on the casings of the drum.

The team at Mapex has shown a commitment to innovation and detail; they have brought a number of unique modernizations to the marching activity that they continually tweak until perfected.

The Mapex tenors, with their walnut interior plies, have set a new standard for tone and projection. The Mapex light-weight aluminum bass rims provide a new level of durability and have presented the opportunity to create new sounds. Right from inception, the Quantum marching project has raised the bar for marching percussion instruments.
