Willem Moolenbeek
Willem Moolenbeek borrowed a saxophone from a friend when he was a student and soon encountered an article in a magazine by the great Canadian saxophonist Paul Brodie. He called Paul with the intention of having a few lessons and then found himself deeply involved in the study of the instrument and continued his lessons with the master for over 5 years as well as being his teaching assistant. Paul encouraged him to perform and record.
He has performed with orchestras, bands, choirs and string ensembles. Over 20 compositions and arrangements have been written for him including works with piano, strings, orchestras and choirs. He has written for music publications and taught on two university faculties over the span of 32 years.
Willem has premiered pieces at World Saxophone Congresses, North American Saxophone Alliance conferences and has been a clinician for Jupiter saxophones as well as Vandoren mouthpieces and reeds since 2007. He currently teaches students around the world and has been part of the faculty of the online school Lessonface since 2016.
